If you get on the Iron Horse Trail that runs behind the Alamo Plaza Shopping Center and take the trail north for approximately a quarter of a mile, there on your left, behind a wrought iron fence and gate will be what is often called the Alamo Menagerie.

The Alamo Menagerie consists of a variety of statues, most probably fiberglass, set up in interesting scenes and on display for those on the trail to see. Some of the statues are part of a farm scene and consist of farmers, cows, sheep, horses, pigs, etc. Another scene is a collection that consists of cowboys, Native Americans, a totem pole, and a buffalo. Still another part of the backyard has a moose, gorillas, a lion, and a zebra. And then there are other statues scattered about as well.

There they sit in someone's back yard clearly visible for passers by on the Iron Horse Trail in the town of Alamo. The owners of the menagerie are Richard and Terri Delfosse who while on a business trip to the Philippines in 2005, purchased a life sized fiberglass cow and brought it back, standing it up in their back yard; the first of many future statues. Over the past several years they have simply continued adding to their collection bringing us the wonderful menagerie they have on display today! They additionally own the Alamo craft story back at the Alamo Plaza.

The menagerie can be found by parking at the Alamo Plaza Shopping Center, and walking the trail about a quarter of a mile. The trail is paved and very well traveled with a lot of people using it during the day. The menagerie sits on the west side of the trail, between Stone Valley and Ridgewood roads.

The Iron Horse Regional Trail runs from Concord to Plesanton and is 32 miles long. It follows the original Southern Pacific Railroad right of way established back in 1891, but abandoned in 1977. Plans are to continue expanding the trail until it is about 55 miles long running from Livermore up to Suisun Bay.
