Welcome to Bakersfield High School, Home of the Drillers! This school has been open since 1893, but it might not just be the living getting educated here! Four separate ghost stories are told by the students.
The first involves a couple, high school aged, who haunt the top of the bleachers of the football stadium. They have been seen there, often making out, him in a letterman jacket, her in what could be described as an old fashioned prom dress. Some stories claim they committed suicide, while another has them the victims of a car accident, driving home the night of the prom in 1955. Cold spots are often encountered at the top of the bleachers. Those who have seen the ghosts claim that the ghostly couple have, at times, smiled, waved, and even addressed in conversation those who have encountered them. A few versions of the story describe the happy ghost couple as hideous with injuries, bones sticking out of arms, an eye dangling, brain matter oozing out of wounds, and bloody wounds across their faces. Supposedly, not just students have seen the couple, but also coaches.
The second ghost story involves the Harvey Auditorium, which is haunted by a former worker, perhaps a janitor or possibly a construction worker. The worker sadly fell to his death, falling from the rafters. Some stories claim he fell several stories into the basement, while others, have him falling onto the stage. His ghost now haunts the auditorium.
The last two deal with the property's history. Originally, part of the school's land belonged to Kern General Hospital, which was built in 1875, but demolished in 1893 to make room for the school. Apparently, the hospital used the land now known as the Quad as an informal, unofficial graveyard, and would bury the body parts of those patients who had passed away! Some stories even point to the hospital having used unmarked graves in the same area, especially for some of the poorer patients. This has led to rumors that the ghosts of these inappropriately buried patients now haunt the school and the Quad! Students have even claimed to see floating spirits in the area!
Our last story, also goes back to the days when Kern General Hospital was located there. A nurse was having an affair with one of the doctors at the hospital, a doctor who was very not pleased when she told him about her unexpected pregnancy. In grief, she jumped off the roof of the hospital, and now haunts Warren Hall! Another legend also states that a girl committed suicide, jumping off the Warren Hall roof in 1993.
People, both students and faculty, have heard strange voices in school, seen doors open or close by themselves, caught glimpses of ghostly figures, heard odd noses, and run across unexplained temperature drops. Additionally, chairs have falled down on their own, and a piano has played itself in the green room.
